Movie: Vaginal myomectomy using Duhrssen's incision

Myomectomy, that is the removal of uterine fibroids, usually requires surgery by laparotomy, hysteroscopy or laparoscopy. However, in certain situations, fibroids can be removed vaginally in a much more efficient and speedy manner. This operation dates back to the 19th century and allows for the excision of relatively large fibroids sited within or mostly within the uterine cavity; the conventional alternative in such cases would be a hysteroscopic procedure which, apart from taking much longer to carry out, would be associated with risks of fluid over-load and uterine perforation.
