Movie: Laparoscopic excision of ovarian dermoid cyst

Dermoid ovarian cysts are relatively common, particularly in younger women. They typically consist of many different tissue types, and may contain hair and teeth (this example contained hair). As the overwhelming majority of dermoids are benign, they are suitable for removal by laparoscopy. Spillage of cyst fluid can be limited by first washing out the cyst, and then removing it inside a plastic bag. This clip starts with the division of some bowel adhesions, and shows a normal looking appendix.
